NMFS Prohibits Retention of Pacific Cod in Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has prohibited the retention of Pacific cod by vessels using trawl, hook-and-line, or pot gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area, in order to prevent exceeding the 1994 apportionments of the Pacific cod total allowable catch (TAC) allocated to vessels using these gear types in the BSAI, and to ensure that catches of Pacific cod are discarded at sea with minimal injury.
