OSHA Grants Permanent Variance to Newport News Shipbuilding for Shipyard Work Practices

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has granted a permanent variance to Newport News Shipbuilding, allowing the company to permit workers to ride the hook or load, swing or suspend loads over workers' heads, and place employees in hazardous positions during the construction and assembly of modular ship sections, as previously prohibited by OSHA regulations.
