US Department of Agriculture to Review Petition for New Bear Welfare Standards

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has announced that it is reviewing a petition to amend the Animal Welfare Act regulations to include specific standards for the humane treatment of bears in captivity, excluding polar bears, which already have established guidelines.
